Sigma Kappa supports 5 different philanthropy organizations, whose names can be easily remembered with the acronym SIGMA: the Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, the Maine Seacoast Mission, and the Alzheimer's Association.
Sigma Kappa Foundation: The Tau chapter supports the Foundation's goals through the Ultra Violet Campaign, a springtime fundraising event that provides collegiate and alumnae chapters
with effective philanthropic engagement. Our past Ultra Violet philanthropy events have included
a Lip Sync Battle and a Food Festival!
Inherit the Earth: Our chapter members participate in various service projects that benefit the environment, such as planting flowers in the springtime as well as maintaining a garden plot at
our local nature center. We also promote sustainability by composting at our philanthropy
events and participating in the university's Energy Challenge to save water and electricity.
Gerontology: In support of the study of gerontology, we pay regular visits to two local
Bloomington nursing homes. Sigma Kappas play games, make crafts, and spend time with the residents to provide companionship and show them that we care about them.
Maine Seacoast Mission: During our Week of Giving, the Tau chapter holds a donation drive to collect items and supplies for the isolated eastern coast of Maine and its unbridged islands.
Alzheimer's Association: Sigma Kappa participates in the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's to
raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. All the proceeds from our fall philanthropy event, Sigma Sweets, also go towards our Walk to End Alzheimer's fundraising total.
